Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers on travel insurance in India.

Is travel insurance mandatory for international travel?
Travel insurance is mandatory for Schengen visa countries (Europe). For other destinations it is not legally required but strongly recommended — a single overseas hospitalisation can cost ₹5–20 lakh or more without cover.
How much does international travel insurance cost?
A standard 15-day international plan starts from ₹500–800 per person. Annual multi-trip plans for frequent travellers cost ₹3,000–6,000 per year. Premium depends on your age, destination and cover amount.
Does travel insurance cover pre-existing medical conditions?
Most standard plans exclude treatment of pre-existing conditions abroad. However, emergency stabilisation is usually covered. Some premium plans offer limited pre-existing disease cover — our advisors can guide you to the right option.
Can I buy travel insurance after I start my trip?
No — travel insurance must be purchased before your departure. The policy cannot be backdated. Contact Policy Aid if you're departing soon and need a policy issued immediately.
Is domestic travel insurance worth buying?
Yes, especially for air travel. Domestic travel insurance covers trip cancellation, flight delay and baggage loss at a very low cost (₹200–400 per trip). For train or bus travel, evaluate based on the trip value and your risk appetite.
